you do realize
the entire time i knew you
i was incorrectly medicated
by a psychiatric provider
who despite me telling him to do better
put me, a bipolar patient, on strong anti-depressants.

i was high as a kite.
frankly, i was higher than you.
frankly, i was higher than you.
you thought
that just because
you're a dude whose been through shit
that you deserved to take all my money.
that just because
you're a dude whose been through shit

well, guess what dude!
i know a lot of people who've been through shit
and if i was going to give all my money away
to a person by choice,
it would not have been you.

you were a scammer,
not a boyfriend,
you don't deserve what the world did to you,
but you also definitely did not deserve me.

Context:
This is about my experience of being financially and emotionally exploited by someone I initially trusted and bonded with over shared experiences related to mental health and addiction challenges. At the time, I was struggling with bipolar disorder and was incorrectly medicated, which affected my ability to navigate the situation and keep myself safe. He gave me signed papers promising to repay me, but he never followed through on them. I know some good guys—this person is not one of them.
